Thrashers open season with two wins

Posted on October 22, 2018 at 7:20 AM

After a long summer off the ice, the Woolwich Thrashers Open Non-Contact team opened the organization's 10th anniversary season with a pair of 4-0 wins against the Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey team this weekend.

Saturday's game at the Woolwich Memorial Centre started with a ceremonial face-off with local MP Harold Albrecht, who helped us kick off the season in style. The Thrashers came out with their engines revving, and quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Gideon Chamberlain goal. Not long after, centerman Josh Chambers increased the lead with his first goal of the season. Chamberlain added a second goal later in the game, and our newest Thrasher Dillon Stuebing capped off a memorable first sledge hockey game with his very first goal in the closing seconds of the game, to lockdown the win.

A group of tired Thrashers headed off the Buffalo on Sunday for the back-half of the home-and-away series this weekend, and again perservered to bring home another 4-0 win. Goal scorers were Gideon Chamberlain (2), Josh Chambers, and Dustin Hoag.

A big shoutout to goaltender Daniel Peters who was our steadying force between the pipes and came up big when called upon. Daniel racked up his first two shutouts of the season, and leads the OSHA league with a 0.00 Goals Against Average.

Dillon Stuebing and Lucas Harrison were our Players of the Games this weekend.

The Thrashers take the ice next on November 2nd at the Cruisers Cup in Brampton.
